Coach Zeitler has been coaching Cross County (& Track & Field) for the past 25 years. His first 6 years were spent at Mater Dei HS and the past 19 years here at Santa Margarita. Coach Zeitler comes from a family of coaches as his dad coached XC and T & F for 34 years and his brother, who is still coaching, is his 41st year. Coach Zeitler graduated from Holy Family DHS, SUNY Cortland & recently earned his Masters degree from Azusa Pacific University. Coach Zeitler teaches in the science department at SM.

Coach Zeitler is married to Colleen (25 + years) and has 3 children. Erin Zeitler Meserve, who competed on the track team for all 4 of her high school years, graduated from SMCHS in ’99 & Cal State Fullerton in ’04.

His son Sean also competed four years on the SMHS track team earning a CIF Championship in the 300IH in 2001 and was part of 2 CIF Championship 4 x 400m relays. Sean graduated in 2001 is currently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona where he competes on the track team.

Coach Z.’s son Peter David competed for SMHS for 3 years. “P.D.” ran X-Country and competed in the hurdle events on the track team for 3 years. P.D. transferred to Trabuco Hills for his senior year. P.D. is currently a proud member of the U.S.M.C. His rank as of September 15th, 2008 is Private First Class. As of 9/22/06, P.D. will be a Military Policeman stationed at Quantico, VA

The family lives in RSM.

Sean Zeitler has been associated with SMCHS Cross Country in various capacities for the past 10 years. An avid runner and sports enthusiast, Sean has been around Cross Country his whole life and enjoys the camaraderie aspect of the sport. Sean is very knowledgeable about running in general and cross country in particular and brings great energy, enthusiasm, and communication skills to the team.

Sean is currently working for ASICS America in the Sales department. A 2001 graduate of SMCHS, Sean competed on the SMCHS Cross Country team from 1999-2001. He was captain of the team in 2001 and competed at the California State Meet in 2000. Sean competed in Track for 3 years at Cal Poly Pomona University, and was a captain for one of those years.
