The 2009 Track & Field Awards Picnic was held on Sunday, May 31st. We had 130 coaches, athletes and family members in attendance to close out the season and watch some very deserving athletes receive their awards.
"Thank You" to Ranch House Meats and all of you that pitched in to make this a nice event.

(Editors Note: Jimmy Martin did not advance to the State Meet, but had an excellent year and high school career. He qualified for the SMCHS T&F Hall of Fame and set an SM all-time track record this year. We'll look forward to hearing about your progress at UC Santa Barbara, Jim.)

Hop in the Aston Martin, drive to Cerritos College for the State Qualifying Meet, AKA "The Masters"
- 6:47pm, run the 110 high hurdles, another school record?
- Drink some Gatorade, shaken, not stirred...
- 7:45pm, run the 300 meter hurdles, another PR?
- Cool down, another Gatorade, no olives...
- Put the tuxedo back on, hop back in the Aston Martin
- 9:00pm to 6:00am, join classmates at Grad Nite

Eagles take 9th in CIF!
Senior Jimmy Martin and Junior Scott Anderson propel the Eagles to 21 points in CIF competition, 3 events, 3 PR's!

Martin runs 14.46 in the 110 high hurdles, 3rd in Div. 3, 7th overall, earns 6 team points
-
Anderson clears 14'3", T-2nd in D-3, T-4th overall, earns 5 team points
-
Martin finishes first with a 37.89 in the 300IH to make him the D-3 Champion, 2nd overall in the Southern Section, earns 10 more team points

Scott Anderson & Jimmy Martin perform well @ PreLims and qualify for CIF So. Section Finals!
Anderson ties the Pole Vault leaders on the day with a 13'10" effort, and advances
Martin turns in a wind-aided 110HH school-record time of 14.64 which, adjusted, made him 6th overall, and dominates the 300IH field by finishing 1st with a time of 38.63

Martin Dominates at League Finals!
Senior Jimmy Martin takes 1st in the 110HH, 1st in the 300IH (PR and Meet Record) and anchors the 4x4 relay team to a CIF berth by blowing past Servite!
Simms takes 1st in Long Jump, 2nd in Triple!
Giemont "owns" the Frosh/Soph 800m!
Anderson qualifies for CIF in Pole Vault
Martin, Glenn, Costa & Abowd (above) qualify for CIF in a thrilling 4x400 relay showdown!

Martin shines @ Concordia!
Eagle athletes set 7 new season Top Marks in league loss to the Lancers
Highlights:
- Versatile Jimmy Martin grabs 1st Place in the 200m, the 400m and the 110HH, sets two new "Personal Records"
- Matthew Graban PR's in the 100m and 200m
- Frosh/Soph 4x400 relay team dominates with a Top Mark
- Mike Holcomb takes 2nd in the 800m with a PR
- Ian Dufficy sets a new PR in the 800m
- Daniel Glenn sets new PR in the 400m
- Robbie Costa PR's in the 400m

3 Eagles compete at the prestigious "Arcadia Invitational" where 1,218 "elite" marks were achieved and 28 National top marks were set!

Jimmy Martin is our top performer, finishing first in his heat in the 300IH hurdles, qualifying for the night meet where he finished 6th overall. Congratulations Jim!

Note: Michael Woepse of Mater Dei set a new Harry Brittingham SMCHS Track record by clearing 16'2" in the pole vault. He broke the '06 record set by his brother Greg. Michael is currently the State leader at 16'4".
